We are currently seeking a Environment & Sustainability Manager, reporting to the Project Director, is responsible for delivering the Environment and Sustainability requirements outlined in the project Conditions of Approval and Project Deed, including delivery of a design and as-built project IS rating under the ISCA V1.2 framework.

The Environment & Sustainability Manager will develop, implement, and maintain the Environmental Management System, Construction Environmental Management Plan and Delivery Phase Sustainability Management Plan under the guidance of the Project Director.

The Environment & Sustainability Manager is responsible for working with the project construction team to detect, define and implement all the necessary measures to address Environment and Sustainability risks throughout construction.

The Environment & Sustainability manager is responsible for developing, assessing and implementing all planning approval documentation, undertaking inspections and maintaining all necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

General requirements:
  • Provide technical environment and sustainability advice and guidance as part of the Senior Leadership team during Construction;
  • Deliver Environment and sustainability training as required, and promote awareness of environment and sustainability risks during construction;
  • Build and maintain relationships through collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders;
  • Responsible for responding to environmental incidents;
  • Encourage a supportive and collaborative environment of sharing knowledge and ideas to ensure continuous improvement within the team;
  • Lead and develop an effective and productive team, including managing the work performance of self and team members, and developing alignment between team capability and the functions business objectives;
  • Contribute to the commercial and financial performance of CAF by effectively managing environment and sustainability cost and risk; and
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities to find new and better ways of operating, encouraging innovation and improvement.

Required profile
  • 5 years+ Post Graduate experience in Environment and Sustainability management on infrastructure projects;
  • Expertise in Environment and Sustainability systems, planning and development;
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative environmental risk assessment and development of risk controls and actions involved in delivery of projects;
  • Proven experience in sustainability rating systems and delivery on major infrastructure projects;
  • Stakeholder management experience, supporting multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Training and facilitation of high-risk activities and the ability to run focus groups/workshops;
  • Expertise in the development and implantation of sustainable practices in design and construction of infrastructure assets;
  • Extensive knowledge of Environmental statutes and legislation;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management systems, structure, plans and implications for quality and accountabilities as it applies to strategic support;
  • Knowledge of auditing compliance and reporting procedures/processes;
  • Expert understanding of incident investigations and reporting;
  • Ability to lead high level investigations involving multiple internal and external parties;
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and manage time and workload;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to build a high performing team that delivers excellence;
  • Detailed knowledge and demonstrated high level of experience in project management, planning, budgeting, and cost control;
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency;
  • High level interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen;
  • Demonstrated high level of decision making, negotiation and influencing skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve conflict in a high stress environment; and
  • Demonstrated high level analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
